Our world is a colorful place – with green trees, blue skies and red flowers – but in space? That’s a whole other story. Space is not just colorful, it is informative with that color. Space is bursting with information in the rainbows emitting from stars and planets. Telescopes have peered into the vast expanse of space and found red shifts and blue shifts, green planets and, sometimes more informatively, ultraviolet and infrared space objects that tell us what an object is made of, how fast it is going and what makes up the incredible array of things we call the Universe. The breakfast talk – The Space Rainbow – by CBC Science Columnist Torah Kachur will explore what color means to an astronomer (hint: colors are numbers) and how color helps us understand the great beyond.
