JUNO Award-winning artist Sammy Jackson is an emerging Jamaican-Canadian singer-songwriter recognized for her distinct sound, fusing elements of Jazz, R&B and Pop. Growing up, she regularly found opportunities to perform and develop as a musician, which led her to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Performance specializing in Jazz Voice from the University of Toronto.

As a rising presence in Toronto and Niagara, Sammy has performed at notable venues and events such as the Glenn Gould Studio, TD Toronto and Niagara Jazz Festivals, The Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, Luminato, and TIFF Bell Lightbox to name a few. In addition to performing and leading her own band, Sammy has shared the stage with renowned musicians such as Barbra Lica, Robi Botos, Rich Brown, and Larnell Lewis.

This year, Sammy Jackson’s latest release With You won a Juno Award for “Vocal Jazz Album of the Year”. This project is a 5-track EP featuring original compositions in collaboration with vocalist and songwriter Jacqueline Teh. It showcases music that is honest and relatable while exploring themes of vulnerability, broken relationships, and love. Sammy’s distinct approach to songwriting captivates a diverse audience through her blend of Jazz, R&B, and Pop. Additionally, With You features some of Canada’s most outstanding musicians, including Tom Fleming, Chris Pruden, Mark Godfrey and Ian Wright.

Special Guest Jacquelin Teh

Jacqueline Teh is a vocalist, composer, and educator based in Toronto and Markham, Ontario. Having graduated from the University of Toronto with a Masters of Jazz Performance majoring in voice, she has composed music for and performed with various ensembles at U of T, and is featured in the U of T Jazz 12tet’s 2016 album “Trillium Falls”. Jacqueline is active in both the Toronto jazz and choral communities and performs with and composes music regularly for the Cantabile Chamber Singers. She has also participated in several grand scale choral projects such as R. Murray Schafer’s “Apocalypsis” during the 2015 Toronto Luminato Festival and the “1000 Voices for Peace” Project in Brussels, Belgium in 2014. Recently, Jacqueline’s jazz and R&B collective project, Moodset, was selected as part of the TD Jazz Festival’s Discovery Series Special Projects.

Jacqueline is currently the director of the U of T Small Vocal Jazz Ensemble, the artistic director for the St. James Children’s Choir outreach program, and a faculty member at Ovation! Academy for the Performing Arts and The Singing School. She is deeply passionate about music education and sharing her knowledge on singing and its benefits.
