The Beaches
Toronto band The Beaches have won two Juno Awards, had seven top 5 singles, opened for the Rolling Stones and Foo Fighters, and count Elton John as a fan. All that and they are still in their mid-20s.
 
Their next few singles will surprise fans with their distinctly indie-pop direction, and yet within their lyrics is a theme not uncommon to musicians or anyone in the music industry: perpetual adolescence, or as lead vocalist/bassist Jordan Miller. Refers to it as “arrested development.”
 
Jordan; her sister, guitarist Kylie Miller, keyboardist/guitarist Leandra Earl; and drummer Eliza Enman-McDaniel are dedicated to this life.
 
New songs “Grow Up Tomorrow,” “Orpheus,” and “My People” — to be released in this order over the next six months — are filled with humour and excellent, clever lines, many about arrested development, of course.
 
“You’re given these momentous life moments, but because we’re in a band, those moments aren’t the same for us,” Jordan reflects. “I’m happy we chose the road we did. Maybe I’ll grow up tomorrow, and things will happen later for me.” Or not.

The Blue Stones burst onto the scene with their acclaimed debut album Black Holes, earning a JUNO Award nomination for Breakthrough Group of the Year and building a reputation for delivering a massive, high-energy sound as a two-piece band. Known for their explosive live performances, the duo—vocalist/guitarist Tarek Jafar and drummer Justin Tessier—blend gritty rock dynamics with catchy hooks and fearless songwriting.
 
Their third album, Pretty Monster, captures the controlled chaos of their live show while pushing their sound into new territory. Produced in part by multi-GRAMMY Award-winner Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes, The Strokes), the album fuses hard-hitting rock with bold creativity and powerful anthems. Twenty-five years ago, when The Rankin Family disbanded, Jimmy Rankin walked out of one of the most successful chapters in Canadian music and stepped into the unknown...
After ten years as principal songwriter, player and vocalist with one of Canada’s most beloved groups — with multi-platinum albums, international tours and six Junos behind them — the songs were still coming. But they were different now: a little rougher around the edges, more personal, raw and edgy.
“I had all this creative energy bottled up,” says Rankin. “After a decade with The Rankin Family, I was writing for myself, playing with new sounds, and finding my own voice.”
That grand experiment became Song Dog.
Recorded in 2000 at Great Big Music in Toronto with producer Tim Thorney, the album drew from everywhere Jimmy had been — Cape Breton, Nashville, the road, the Rankin years — and turned it into something fresh. Folk, country, Celtic, Americana and rock all found their way into the mix, but the result was unmistakably Jimmy: gritty, melodic, deeply rooted, and completely his own.
Released in 2001 on EMI, Song Dog quickly became a defining moment in Rankin’s career. “Followed Her Around” lit up country radio, the video found heavy rotation, and Jimmy hit the road with the Song Dog Band, building a new following while bringing longtime Rankin Family fans with him.
The album went on to rack up serious recognition: an ECMA Album of the Year win, a CCMA win, two Juno nods, a SOCAN #1 radio play award, and multiple ECMA wins for singles and videos.
Now, for the first time, Jimmy is bringing Song Dog back to the stage and performing the album live in its entirety.
The Song Dog 25th Anniversary Tour celebrates the landmark album that launched his solo career, performed front to back, along with favourites from across Jimmy’s celebrated catalogue. For longtime fans, it’s a chance to hear the record that changed everything. For new fans, it’s the perfect introduction to the voice, songs and stories that have made Jimmy Rankin one of Canada’s most enduring artists.

The Halluci Nation is real. 
After starting a new cycle, 3-time Juno Award Winners- Bear Witness and Tim “2oolman” Hill of A Tribe Called Red reintroduced themselves as The Halluci Nation to reflect the evolution of their music and mission. The Halluci Nation, took its name from a phrase coined by John Trudell, to describe the vast global community of people who remember at their core, what it means to be human. As a visionary artist and activist, Trudell recognized the connection between his accomplishments and what ATCR did intuitively through music and art. 
Trudell’s voice was the first heard on Tribe’s record, We Are The Halluci Nation, and fittingly, and is also the first you hear on The Halluci Nation’s record, One More Saturday Night. The album is a love letter to the Electric Pow Wow gatherings launched at Ottawa’s Babylon nightclub in 2007. It represents an imagined denouement to the biweekly Saturday-night parties that ended abruptly in 2017, without ever getting the proper send-off. One More Saturday Night thus pays homage to the parties’ energy and momentum that elevated The Halluci Nation to this pivotal point in their career of fully mastering their own music style while also moving beyond club music; or “mixing dance music with dance music,” as Bear Witness succinctly puts it. 
This is a beginning, not an end, after all. The Halluci Nation maintains focus on what they feel they can impact most: how Indigenous people are seen. Through groundbreaking stage shows and ever-changing visuals, Bear Witness and 2oolman are working to create media that reflects the modern day Indigenous identity. They see themselves simply as contributors to a necessary conversation around a subtle and complex representation of the contemporary Indigenous experience. 
In November 2023 The Halluci Nation continue to contribute to that conversation with their next project, “The Road To Halluci Mania”, a 2-part EP themed around their love for Professional Wrestling and overcoming obstacles by remaining to be an authentic representation of oneself. 
“The last album we wrapped up a whole decade of experience up and closed that cycle. In doing so we gave the coordinates of where the future was headed. So that’s what this EP is,” says Bear. “it’s where we are in this present moment and gives another look into plans for the future of The Halluci Nation. It’s a project that people can dance to, but it still has the strong message we are known for. This time we wanted to show it through a bit of a different lens to help further push the conversation about indigenous representation and how we can all impact change”.
“Path of The Heel” exposes listeners to the “Heel” side of Professional Wrestling and the plot to take down the “baby face” Tag Team Champions by a group named “The Alie Nation”. This concept is played out through the production of hard hitting Dub-Step and Drum & Bass tracks, combined with further experimentation of cross-genre collaborations featuring Damian Abraham, and drum group Northern Cree. The result catapults The Halluci Nation’s classic sound and their message into the present and beyond.
“We wanted to take our music to a place it’s never been before and really challenge our abilities with this project,” says 2oolman. “We showed a little bit of our ambitious side on our last record by making a lot of songs that we’d been wanting to do for a long time. But that was just the beginning. We are at a point where we are making music we love, that is inspired by our everyday lives and all the incredible people that we have been lucky to surround ourselves with. This isn’t even a fraction of it… We’ve got so much more coming.”

Gina BurgessInternationally recognized artist Gina Burgess is a multi-genre violinist, composer, yoga instructor, educator, and musician wellness facilitator. A former member of the Juno nominated Iqaluit-based Arctic rock band “The Jerry Cans”, a four-time ECMA award winner with the Hot Swing group “Gypsophilia”, and collaborator with numerous ensembles, Burgess is sought after!Her debut album, “ISNOW”, won the 2024 ECMA fusion recording of the year award. This project reflects her diverse experience, mixing classical music with Celtic folk and incorporating contemporary Inuit throat singing with elements of jazz.Burgess recently published a book, “One Note at a Time: A Musician’s Guide to Health on the Road.” This activity book serves as a health and wellness resource for touring musicians. It presents a new perspective to life on the road, aiding touring artists in developing a personalized wellness practice.Burgess’s newest music is improvisational in nature and not confined to a specific ensemble structure. These compositions draw inspiration from the minimalist composers of the 1960s and aim to create large-scale, hypnotic musical experiences through repetition of rhythmic and melodic gestures. Like light, these pieces evolve and transform over time. Burgess’s original compositions have been described as ethereal, genre-defying, and filled with Spirit.Hans TammenHans Tammen is just another worker in rhythms, frequencies and intensities. He likes to set sounds in motion, and then sit back to watch the movements unfold. Using textures, timbre and dynamics as primary elements, his music is continuously shifting, with different layers floating into the foreground while others disappear. This flows like clockwork, “transforming a sequence of instrumental gestures into a wide territory of semi-hostile discontinuity; percussive, droning, intricately colorful, or simply blowing your socks off” (Touching Extremes).

Produced by Jordan Honsinger (Patrick James Clark, Morgan Griffiths) at his Nashville home studio and mixed by Jordan Oorebeek (Kalsey Kulyk, Sully Burrows) the native of rural Montreal and winner of the Emerging Artists Showcase at 2024's Boots and Hearts Music Festival weaves through six heartfelt narratives about love, attraction, loyalty and heartbreak: all delivered with potent melodies that underscore her universally relatable lyrics.

This isn’t just another tour date—it’s a rare, full-band reunion of blues heavyweights. Garrett Mason, Keith Hallett, Rhéo Rochon Jr. and Chuck Bucket - each well-known Canadian musicians - are hitting the stage together for an extremely limited run of shows, and we are incredibly lucky to have them for their only Prince Edward Island performance.
Long before they became icons of the scene, these four were true road warriors—touring coast to coast, packed into old vans with vintage guitars and a shared obsession with the blues. After carving out their own paths, the road has finally brought them back together on the same stage.
Expect a masterclass in grit and soul as they blend old-school blues with psychedelic rhythm rock n’ roll. It’s the heartbeat of our Friday night lineup.
Friday's show opens with Mama’s Broke - a world-touring powerhouse duo that defies the boundaries of traditional folk. Based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Amy Lou Keeler and Lisa Maria Bates are multi-instrumentalists to the core. The duo moves seamlessly between fiddle, banjo, guitar, and mandolin, underpinned by foot percussion and soaring, telepathic vocal harmonies. Their music isn’t just a collection of songs; it’s a masterclass in atmospheric arrangement, seamlessly blending the driving rhythms of Appalachian old-time with the haunting, minor-key textures of Eastern European folk. 
With two critically acclaimed albums—including the JUNO-nominated Narrow Line—Mama’s Broke has earned a global reputation for their compelling, high-intensity live shows. Their music is a testament to the power of the folk tradition when it is stripped to its bones and rebuilt for a modern, changing world.
The night begins with an opening reception on the outdoor deck, with food and drinks (government issued ID required for alcohol) from local vendors, and the sweet piano sounds from Paulina Cooper with our spotlight on Holland College's (PEI) School of Performing Arts.

Mimi O’Bonsawin (Pronounced: MEE-MEE O-BON-SA-WIN) is a contemporary roots singer-songwriter born in Northeastern Ontario. She is  French Canadian & W8banaki (Abénaki), a member of the Odanak First Nation. Through her rhythm and story-driven songs, Mimi’s music embraces the beauty of the land. The ethereal quality of her music whisks you away with uplifting melodies and introspective lyrics that weave pop sensibilities with acoustic instrumentation. Layers of percussion and unexpected harmonies make you feel the music rather than just hear it.
 
As both artist and gardener, Mimi draws a deep connection between the two practices: “Making music and growing food are very much the same. They both start with a seed and, with proper care, can grow into a beautiful garden that we all can share. I put intention and love into every seed and every note.”
 
In May 2025, Mimi was awarded Solo Artist of the Year at the Trille Or Awards. Earlier in the year, she toured Australia with performances at the Woodford and Cygnet Folk Festivals. While hard at work on her next album, she’ll also hit the road for a cross-Canada tour this summer.
 Mimi performs as a duo with her husband, Ryan Schurman, on drums and percussion, creating an intimate yet uplifting experience. Together, they invite audiences into their universe with a full-band sound that inspires dancing, singing and joy.
 
In spring 2024, during her second tour in France, Mimi released Live In Concert, her first-ever live album, capturing favourite moments from one of her Willow album release shows. 
 
Released in March 2023, Willow is a collection of 14 songs that marked a turning point in her creative journey. “This album sounds like the music I have always heard in my heart,” Mimi says. “It is honest, it is real, and it is full of life. I have never felt more alive.”
 Late that year, on September 29, 2023, she released her first full-length French album, Boréale, an intimate reflection of her roots, also recorded with Ryan in their log home studio.
 
2024 brought incredible opportunities, with performances at festivals and arts centres across Canada. Mimi opened for JUNO-award winning artists including Aysanabee, Good Lovelies, The East Pointers, and DJ Shub, as well as Beverly Glenn-Copeland at Montreal’s Rialto Theatre.
 
The 2023/2024 season was marked by acclaim, with nominations at the Folk Music Ontario Awards, Capital Music Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards, Northern Ontario Music & Film Awards, Native American Awards, and Prix Trille Or. Her albums Willow and Live In Concert were also considered at the GRAMMYs. In 2019, Mimi won Best Pop Album at the Indigenous Music Awards.
 
Reaching new audiences at home and abroad, Mimi stays true to this statement:

Joel Plaskett - 30+ years on records and the road, still restless & rolling onFor over three decades, Joel Plaskett has proven himself a spinning wheel of reinvention. The Nova Scotia songwriter's eclectic body of work reveals a restless and playful spirit, always transforming and expanding.While continuing to celebrate -- and be celebrated for -- his regional ties and embrace of East Coast musical traditions, Joel’s omnivorous appetite for new sonic horizons is an integral part of his work. His discography includes heavy riff epics, like Thrush Hermit's now-classic swansong Clayton Park (1999); low-fi and wide eyed solo records like In Need of Medical Attention (1999) and La De Da (2005); lean, loose and lyrical rock and roll with the Emergency on Down at the Khyber (2001) and Truthfully, Truthfully (2003); and a father-and-son nod to English folk traditions with Solidarity (2017). Then there are the endeavours that push the envelope further: the Emergency’s romantic epic concept album Ashtray Rock (2007); the months-long songwriting challenge Scrappy Happiness (2012); and Three (2009) and 44 (2020), Joel’s sprawling, multi-record ventures exploring love, loss, and existential investigation. For his latest release, the 4-track project One Real Reveal (2024), Plaskett strips his songwriting down to its raw materials, allowing everything in—all the human touches the tape could pick up—and letting (almost) everything out. Coast-to-coast and the world 'round, Joel has rocked crowds at clubs, festivals and grand old theatres with longtime Emergency bandmates Dave Marsh and Chris Pennell as well as drawn audiences close with intimate acoustic shows, both solo and with his father, Bill. Then there are the special events that have really allowed Joel to reach the rafters, like headlining Toronto’s Massey Hall with everyone in tow, playing the NAC in Ottawa backed by the national orchestra, and warming up huge stages for artists like The Tragically Hip and Paul McCartney.Joel and the Emergency have also been roundly celebrated within the music industry for their work, racking up awards and nominations from the JUNOs, the Polaris Music Prize, the East Coast Music Awards, Music Nova Scotia, and numerous others. While Joel’s songs are beloved far beyond the community that helped forge his sound, his creative heart is still found at home in Nova Scotia. At 45 Portland Street in Dartmouth there’s Fang Recording, the studio where he’s made many of his albums and produced records for other great artists like Mo Kenney, Steve Poltz, Shotgun Jimmie and Jimmy Rankin. And through the door to the front of the building lies Taz Records, Morley's Coffee and Friction Books. Since 2023, Joel has used the space to present Window Inn Wednesdays, a monthly, no-phones-allowed variety show that pushes back—like most of his projects—against the speed and din of modern life, making space for real engagement between art, artist, and audience.
