Description

Set in the elegant Performance Hall of the National Music Centre, three works written around the turn of the 20th century each illustrate distinctive European characters. Nadia Boulanger’s charming miniatures exude French elegance with a delicate charm. Belá Bartók declared the Serenade by his friend and colleague Kodály to be “a genuine, modern product of Hungarian culture,” blending old peasant songs with distinctive, angular harmonies. Souvenir de Florence is a sunny picture postcard of Italy viewed through a Russian lens, with star turns for each performer.
