Description

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the Northwest Métis homeland. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.

Real Life Rainbow Royalty: an intimate conversation with Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil

Join Manvendra Singh Gohil (he/him), Crown Prince of Rajpipla, India and the world’s first openly gay Prince, as he shares his lived experiences of complex — and sometimes conflicting — identities with Calgary Pride. Prince Manvendra is the only Indian to be featured by Oprah Winfrey on three occasions and has appeared twice on Keeping up with the Kardashians.

Celebrities Suresh and Lavina Kapai superstar parents on Bravo's hit series Family Karma partake in the conversation and will share a parent's perspective on supporting their child's journey of who they are.

We invite everyone to tune in virtually for a courageous conversation about navigating our own conflicting identities.

Key topics slated for discussion include:

  • Explaining how Prince Manvendra navigates his ongoing conflict between the different aspects of his individual and cultural identities and belief systems.

  • Discussing the impacts of conflicting identities on the  mental health of 2SLGBTQ+ people of colour, while understanding that mental health is frequently a taboo topic in some ethnicities and their cultures, such as South Asians.

  • Sharing how ethnic communities have responsibilities in shifting the understanding and actions supporting inclusion of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities and beyond.

  • Sharing a parent's perspective on embracing their child's journey of embracing their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender experession.
