Symbiosis/\Dysbiosis makes its Canadian Premiere in Toronto as an award-recognized live VR theatre experience where forests respond, breathe, and remember. Celebrated through the Goethe-Institut Montreal’s New Nature Climate Science Award, the work fuses live performance, immersive VR, human EEG, and live music co-performed with living fungal mycelium into a responsive world. For its Canadian premiere, living fungi at Theatre Passe Muraille are networked live with fungi at VIVO Media Arts Centre in Vancouver, forming a cross-Canada wood-wide web! Supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and Toronto Arts Council, and sponsored by InteraXon Muse Toronto, Symbiosis/\Dysbiosis invites audiences into a forest that listens back.
As a group of artists, technologists, and scientists, our works coalesce in forming expanded reality installations and theatrical performances, both live and VR/AR theatre.
Our network is a rich tapestry of talent, encompassing sound artists, actors, creative technologists, scientists, musicians, puppet makers, and educators. This diversity of skills and perspectives fuels our innovative approach to art and science.
Our mission is to make the invisible visible, to heal our connections within the shared environment, and to inspire a shift in consciousness that moves us beyond thinking of ourselves as isolated individuals. This transformative power of our work gives hope for a more connected and sustainable future.
