WHO WE ARE?

Porcupine is grounded in respect for the land, Indigenous culture, community, and connections created through music, art, and storytelling. We are committed to uplifting Indigenous voices, honouring tradition and teachings, supporting youth and emerging artists, and creating opportunities for collaboration, reciprocity, and cultural exchange. Porcupine strives to create a space where people gather with respect, celebrate creativity, and leave a lasting positive impact.

CULTURE

The Porcupine Invitational is an Indigenous-led gathering rooted in music, culture, community, and connection. This festival is built around creating intentional spaces where people can gather, celebrate, express themselves, and experience meaningful connection on the land.

Porcupine Invitational takes place on Piikani First Nation, Siksikaitsitapi Territory, in Southern Alberta. We recognize and honour the Blackfoot people, the traditional stewards of this land, and we ask all attendees and volunteers to enter this space with respect, gratitude, and awareness.

The festival site, Camp Maatsowanikaapii, is located on the land of Porcupine Collective co-founder Cowboy Smithx. The camp is named after Cowboy’s grandfather, Maatsowanikaapii, meaning “handsome man.”

CORE VALUES

Community Care

We believe everyone has a role in caring for one another. Look out for your fellow volunteers, artists, attendees, and the land.

Harm Reduction

Porcupine Invitational recognizes that safety and care are essential parts of community. We provide resources, support, and a welcoming environment where people can access supplies, take space, and connect with experienced harm reduction volunteers.

Consent Culture

Consent is required in all interactions. Respect personal boundaries, ask before touching others or their belongings, and help create a space where everyone feels safe.

Leave No Trace

We are guests on this land. Please respect the environment by packing in what you bring and packing out what you leave behind.

Pack in. Pack out. Leave the land better than you found it.
