Description

Join Michael Phair and special guest Murray Billett at the Legislature for this talk and walk back through time. Hear about things like Delwin Vriend, early attempts to change the Individual Rights Protection Act, the Lake of Fire, and so much more. Alberta governments haven't always had our backs as a community, but we have never been silent.

Not familiar with our tours? Attending the conference and not familiar with the city? Don't worry. Our friendly guides will explain everything you need to know before we start, but you're looking at a 90-minute guided walking tour, rain or shine, and our knowledgeable guides encourage interaction and are able to tailor the talk to the group.

**This tour will start at the plaza (with the water spray park) that borders on 99ave. Look for Michael and the EQHP sign.

We are pleased to be able to provide ASL interpretation for this walking tour. Please notify us at least one week in advance when you register.

The 2024 Spring/Summer EQHP Walking Tour Series is made possible thanks to funding and support provided by the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity, Edmonton Downtown Business Association, and the Stollery Community Foundation.

What is the cost of the tour? All walking tours are free, thanks to the support of the Edmonton Downtown Business Association, Stollery Charitable Foundation, and the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity.

How long is a tour? Each tour is about 90 minutes and will take place outside without any breaks. Please dress for the weather and bring sunscreen, water or snacks. Tours are accessible as much as city sidewalks/streets allow.

Who is hosting the tour? All walking tours are hosted and guided by members of the Edmonton Queer History Project along with special invited guests. Each walking tour participant will receive a free souvenir Edmonton Queer History Map!

Are there other tour dates/themes/hosts? Yes! We are pleased to offer a variety of different walking tours this spring and summer. Check out the full program at: https://www.edmontonqueerhistoryproject.ca/news-events

What if I can't make any of the dates? Gather your friends and create your own queer history walking tour by downloading the Story City app, which has two EQHP self-guided tour options!
