Description
VIU Students' Union invites you to join us for a community event with opportunities to discuss two important topics. This is a free event, but we ask that you RSVP for the purposes of planning seats and refreshments.
We are excited to have with us for the evening, Seth Klein, the Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. He will be presenting the case for proportional representation, looking at some of the arguments made on the opposing side, outlining the problems with our current electoral system, and speaking to how proportional representation addresses these issues. Furthermore, he will explain what will be on the ballot in the fall referendum, and the three models of proportional representation that are on offer.
In the second half of the evening, we will be hosting a panel discussion on housing solutions for Nanaimo. We are pleased to have with us John Horn from the City of Nanaimo, a housing and tenancy resource representative from Nanaimo Women's Resource Centre, and Kelly Muir from VIU Student Residences.
After each session there will be the opportunity for questions from the audience.
