Phil Jenkins Presents, "Where Have all the Protest Songs Gone?"

Protest songs have a long and fascinating history, from the 19th century till the troubles of today. Phil Jenkins has harvested a selection of those songs from the well-known to not so well-known and presents them using slides and the stories behind the songs to provide a compelling evening. 

Phil was born in England, June 15th, 1951 - the same day rock and roll started. Emigrating to Canada in 1978, he busked on the Byward Market, then began "working the corners", playing in bars and concert halls throughout eastern Canada for thirty years, appearing on CBC Radio and TV and at numerous festivals including the Ottawa Folk Festival twice. He was a founding member of Writer's Block, a working group of singer/songwriters out of Rasputin's folk club in Ottawa and was in two duos, Headcleaner and The Reincarnation. 

After moving to the Gatineau Hills in 1991, he co-founded Riverbend, which produced two full-length recordings, CarTunes and Making Waves. His solo album Noteworthy was released at the Black Sheep in March 2020. He founded Striving for Beauty in 2023, and they released an EP, Music for a Better Day in 2024. They played their first, and last, gig at Musical Mondays that year. All Phil's recordings are on Bandcamp.com.

Phil Jenkins a recueilli une sélection de ces chansons, des plus connues aux moins connues, et les présente à l'aide de diapositives et des histoires qui se cachent derrière les chansons, pour une soirée passionnante.

Phil est né en Angleterre le 15 juin 1951, le jour même où le rock and roll a vu le jour.
