Description
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical version of The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it. He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command.
In collaboration with GENVAS, the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center, we will present a powerful concert version of The Phantom of the Opera. Performed by Broadway artists this production features beloved highlights including “The Phantom of the Opera,” “All I Ask of You,” “The Music of the Night,” “Masquerade” and the GRAMMY nominated “Learn to Be Lonely.” The cast then takes the audience on a journey of “Broadway Through the Years” revisiting music from Broadway’s early beginnings of Gilbert and Sullivan, George Gershwin, and Jerome Kern right up to today’s hits such as Kimberly Akimbo and Hamilton!
Appearing in this production is Kimilee Bryant who is the only actress to sing all three main female characters. She is best known for playing the role of Christine Daaé in the Broadway production and in many major international productions of The Phantom of the Opera. Laird Mackintosh, the final Phantom on Broadway, as well as a star of Broadway and London's West End. Michele McConnell is a singer and actress who made her Broadway debut in The Phantom of the Opera in July 2011, in the role of Carlotta Guidicelli. McConnell played Carlotta for a record-breaking 6.5 years, performing in over 2,200 performances, including the 10,000th performance and 25th anniversary show, making her the longest-running Carlotta in Broadway history.
This program is made possible by grants from the Community Foundation of Broward, The Our Fund Foundation, The City of Lauderhill and the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Resort & Spa.
