About

PechaKucha Calgary kicks off our 2023-24 season on Thursday, September 14 with "The Living City."
These new speakers will take to the stage to share their views on the central theme. What is a city? What is this city? Is it a living organism?

As always, each speaker will prepare 20 slides which auto-advance every 20 seconds giving them a total of 400 seconds to express their point. If you're new to PechaKucha, this speaker series is fun, fast-paced and filled with lots of great people and ideas.

Speakers:

  • Larissa Costella | An artist / pastry chef / dairy fairy / cookie monster who was born, raised and is living and working in Calgary, Alberta.
  • Everett Tetz | A former Vice Principal and esteemed educator who now works with groups and municipalities looking to integrate skateboard facilities, infrastructure and programming in their communities.
  • Rebecca Dawn | @RebeccaD_Emcee | A performance artist, environmental scientist and Yoga instructor. She holds BA degrees in Archaeology and Music, and MSc in Ecology.
  • Shone Thistle
  • Amy Thompson | An educator by trade but forever a learner in life. An experienced creative, non-formal educator, and explorer of the natural world, she is thrilled to share her thoughts about tonight’s theme.
  • Alice Lam | @Alamyyc | Alice Lam is an avid volunteer and community builder in Calgary. She is passionate about using social enterprise to raise awareness and help Calgarians see themselves as a part of our city’s story.
  • Meaghon Reid | The Executive Director of Vibrant Communities Calgary. She brings a diverse range of experience in collective impact and policy change to the role, having directed numerous domestic violence and mental health organizations across North America.
  • Cleopatra June
  • Heather Chapple | A community builder who is passionate about creating more beautiful, playful, enjoyable and inclusive neighbourhoods. She's also a mom, a sales leader at an AI-scale up, and an avid hiker.
  • Emcee: Calvin D'Silva | @calvinkentdsilva | A Calgary creative who you've probably never heard of. He's currently in school for Baking, because he's found it to be the easiest answer to the question "what do you do?"

FAQ

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
PechaKucha is an all ages show but we recommend it for 16+. We do not control speakers' content and as such, adult language or difficult images may be showcased. If you want to drink at the bar, you definitely need to be 18+; please bring ID and drink responsibly.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Vehicles: Street parking is free after 6 PM. Surface lots in the area vary in price. The Grand does NOT have any specific theatre-related parking lot. We definitely encourage carpooling. Watch out for all of the construction in the area.
Bikes: There is bike parking at Brookfield Place directly across 1st Street from the Grand.
Transit: The closest CTrain stations are 1st Street (westbound) and Centre Street (eastbound) which are both just a 0-1 block walk north/west to the Grand.

What can I bring into the event?
Friends, foes, lovers, strangers, people you want to hang out with.

Can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Yup. info@pknyyc.com

It's an $18 ticket. If you can't use yours, please pass it on to a friend. We can also give away unused (purchased) tickets at the door to waitlisters -- please message us if can't attend and would like this done with yours. You can request a refund through showpass and we'll deal with it as quickly as we can but no refunds within 5 days of the event.

What is PechaKucha?
PechaKucha Night Calgary is part of a global community of PechaKucha Nights. Each time we host an event we pay forward $1 of every ticket sold to PKN HQ in Tokyo to help ensure PechaKuchas the world over can keep bringing communities together to share ideas.
