Experience the fire, elegance and irresistible rhythm of tango as award-winning Toronto ensemble Payadora brings its internationally acclaimed sound to the intimate stage at The Vill.

Drawing from the rich tango and folk traditions of Argentina and Uruguay, Payadora blends the music of legendary masters - including Pugliese, Troilo and Piazzolla - with original compositions and inventive arrangements. Classical precision, jazz spontaneity and world-music influences come together in a performance filled with passion, virtuosity and joy.

Since forming in 2013, Payadora has performed across North America, South America and Europe, appearing at celebrated venues and festivals including the National Arts Centre, Ottawa Chamberfest, Toronto Summer Music and London’s BBC studios. Their sold-out European tours have taken them to Madrid, Copenhagen, Budapest and beyond.

The ensemble’s acclaimed album Silent Tears: The Last Yiddish Tango reached #1 on the World Music Charts Europe and earned the 2024 Folk Music Ontario Award for Best Album. Payadora also received Germany’s prestigious 2024 RUTH World Music Award and is nominated for the 2026 Canadian Folk Music Awards’ Pushing Boundaries Award.

Led by violinist and vocalist Rebekah Wolkstein, Payadora brings together an extraordinary lineup:
