Pianist, vocalist, composer and arranger Patti Payne brings her expressive blend of contemporary jazz and Bossa nova to The Vill for an intimate evening of exceptional live music.
Beginning her jazz career in Montreal and now based in Hamilton, Patti is known for her sultry vocal tone, multilingual lyricism and imaginative arrangements. Moving fluidly between languages, moods and musical colours, she creates performances that feel deeply personal, richly textured and effortlessly transporting.
As an arranger, Patti brings a fresh and exploratory approach to jazz and Bossa nova traditions. Her music reveals subtle harmonic details and emotional nuances, leaving room for listeners to inhabit each song and experience it from their own perspective.
Her work has earned heartfelt praise from fellow musicians and listeners alike:
“I love the quiet sophistication of your music.”
— Ralf Buschmeyer, professional guitarist
“Your stage presence alone is transcendent. Your music: exquisite. Captivating… Your lyrics are sheer truth and feeling—dark, shaded and radiant all together.”
— Jeff Mahoney, retired reporter and columnist with The Hamilton Spectator
Composer and producer Paul Intson has also praised the unmistakable individuality Patti brings to every arrangement, describing her music as both timeless and entirely new, with an originality that is honest, genuine and resonant long after the final note.
Patti has appeared at notable venues and festivals including The Jazz Room in Waterloo, the Waterloo Jazz Festival and Hamilton’s Gasworks Concert Hall. She has also opened for and performed as a guest artist with the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra.
Her debut album, You Give Me Fever, marks an exciting chapter in her evolving artistry and showcases a sound that is distinctive, fearless and unmistakably her own.
