Description
We're happy to share that Andrés Porras Verwaayen will be back this year to lead his Soundwalk "On Listening and Being Heard."
Andrés led The Sounds of Wellness in February of last year. On this walk, participants pondered the ways in which the sounds of vehicle-heavy environments impact one's mental wellbeing.
This year's walk (On Listening and Being Heard) will begin and end at Olympic Plaza, looping though City Hall, Fort Calgary, Confluence Moh’kinsis View Point, and East Village. While the path is typically flat and generally wheelchair accessible, please note that accessibility may be impacted by weather conditions or road construction. In that case, a reroute or detour may take place.
With this year's theme of Listening and Being Heard, Andrés asks listeners to consider the following questions:
1. Whose voice is heard?
2. Whose voice is silenced?
3. How can we become more intentional listeners?
Along this walk, Andrés will spark a discussion on the history of these locations – as places for gathering and celebration, as sites of protest. While considering their cultural significance, participants may ponder the use of "voice" within these spaces, while considering which voices have historically been the loudest.

A close up of a man (Andrés Porras Verwaayen) with dark hair and a tapered cut wearing sunglasses with black frames. He's standing in (what seems to be) a parking lot with his left thumb and index fingers on his chin, in a seemingly pensive state. Behind him, and out of focus, are parked cars and apartment buildings.
