Description
Listening Party, live!
Join us for our second record release party for Night Keeper - a collaboration between Norman Westberg, Aaron Landsman and performer Jehan O Young. At the Hole, we'll play a little bit of the work live, and maybe share some additional new work from Norman, Aaron and Jehan, and we'll have records available for purchase ($25) and snacks and drinks for a donation.
Night Keeper is released on the Swiss label Hallow Ground, and was recorded in Brooklyn at Figure 8 Studios. We are quietly, darkly excited to share this hallucinatory communion with you.
Night Keeper premiered at The Chocolate Factory Theater in spring 2023, supported by a NYSCA commission and additional commissioning and production support.
Night Keeper is funded by a grant from

Here are some reviews:
“The beauty of “Night Keeper” lies in its ability to capture the feeling of sleeplessness without forcing it. It doesn’t demand that you pay attention, nor does it try to jolt you awake with sharp, loud moments. Instead, it invites you to surrender to its slow, hypnotic pulse and explore the landscape of your own mind. In that sense, it’s a perfect soundtrack for those late-night hours when the world outside feels distant, and all you have is your thoughts, the shadows, and the sound. In a world where noise often drowns out quiet reflection, “Night Keeper” offers a rare opportunity to explore the stillness. It’s a record that speaks to the heart of insomniacs, wanderers, and anyone who’s ever found themselves lost in the space between waking and sleeping. Westberg’s immersive soundscapes and Young’s gentle narration combine to create a world of their own – a space where time stretches, memories shift, and the night itself seems to take on a life of its own.” – Chain DLK
“If you’ve ever not slept for a prolonged spell, Night Keeper will feel familiar. If you’ve had the good fortune to habitually enjoy the luxury of quality sleep, then Night Keeper may provide some education and insight into the torment of what it’s like, you lucky bastard.” – Aural Aggravation
“It really makes a difference when you get a properly trained actor involved. We hear plenty of spoken word records, and Young’s performance truly stands out, her years of stage training giving each word genuine character. Landsman’s play was originally performed last year at The Chocolate Factory in Queens, accompanied by choreography and projections, and he serves as producer here, working with Westberg to turn it into a coherent album. It works too, even without seeing the play properly, we get a sense of its themes and tension; Westberg, working with loops and samples of guitar, adds motion that propels Young’s sonorous delivery. Bassy knocks cede to ghostly, SoTL-like passages and meditative textural exercises, and Young’s voice is omnipresent, like another instrument.” – Boomkat
