Description
We're honoured to once again be working with Bug Incision (crys cole + Oren Ambarchi 2022), and partnering with our new friends Sound Atlas Festival and Contemporary Calgary for a three-way co-presentation of the Nakatani Gong Orchestra (NGO). NGO is a large-scale community gong performance facilitated and directed by Japanese-American luminary percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani. The work takes place in the 'Grotto' space at Contemporary Calgary; this large, circular space will compel massive reverberance as we open our whole listening-beings towards sixteen gongs sounding simultaneously. This show also features a set from Ottawa-based emerging percussion duo SHHH!! Ensemble. With their fierce commitment to commissioning Canadian composers and their busy touring schedule, the duo of Edana Higham (piano) and Zac Pulak (percussion) is quickly establishing itself as one of the most active new classical percussion ensembles performing across Canada.
This event takes place in a big room with options for standing, sitting in a plastic banquet-style chair, or lying on the floor.
