EPISODE 1:A FULLER BIRTHDAY
A Thursday Special bringing in feature guests MT. Doyle and Digipunk
MT. Doyle (Victoria)
In the beginning Mt. Doyle was known for his smooth taste in Drum & Bass, and his unmatched love for pizza. But it wasn't long before Doyle expanded his horizons to include Funk, House, Hip-Hop and Bass, all with his soulful West Coast flavour. He quickly became a staple in the BC electronic music scene, known not only for his multi-genre sets but his range of recorded mixes as well.
Over the past 10 years, Mt. Doyle has played lounges, clubs, and festivals all over the North West. He’s held a residency at Victoria’s Roof Top Surf Club, played at Vancouver’s famous Commodore Ballroom, and rocked many festivals including Shambhala, Lightning in a Bottle, Rifflandia, Electric Love, Fozzy Fest, Boogaloo, Astral Harvest, Ska Fest, Sun Fest, Tall Tree and Bamboo Bass Festival in Costa Rica. In that time he’s shared the stage with international heavyweights Aphrodite, Ed Solo, A.Skillz, K+Lab, Stickybuds, The Funk Hunters, Chali 2na, JFB, Dub FX, Rusko, Technimatic, Ray Keith, Doc Scott, LSB & DRS, Netsky, Camo & Krooked and Andy C, not to mention many of the west coast’s finest.
In 2016 Mt. Doyle started The Hydration Mix Series, a monthly Liquid Drum & Bass podcast with DJs Sinisthetix, Willisist, Erski, Reflektor, Lasu and DJ Surgeon. Later that year Doyle took on a whole new style as he joined the ranks of Illvis Freshly, a Victoria-based Hip-Hop band with live rock elements, heavy bass and a healthy dose of funky turntablism. In 2018 Illvis Freshly released their 3rd album "Certified Fresh" where Mt. Doyle made his vocalist debut.
Over the years Mt. Doyle has established himself as one of the most versatile DJs on Vancouver Island. With a mountainous lust for music and style that keeps you guessing, Mt. Doyle will keep bodies moving any time, any place, with whatever the hell he wants.
Digipunk (Grande Prairie)
Curator. Mentor. Steward. Pusher.
These adjectives describe Digipunk, an artist who understands the interconnectivity of music and the inner workings of its tempos and genres.
He’s an expert-level curator to all party levels, set times, and locations in both his DJ sets and through his work as boss man of FutureVibes Music. He’s a mentor that recognizes the importance of new generations and the development of talent to the future of bass music. Lastly, he is a steward of low-end music, mainly drum and bass, which he collects and uses in all of its forms to craft party atmospheres and listening zones alike.
Since 2001, Digipunk has been accumulating music and cultivating divergent DJ sets. As his moniker suggests, he got his start in punk rock, but after discovering drum and bass and breaks, he was hooked. Back then, located on the island, his sounds were primarily inspired by early aughts west coast breakbeats. Now based in Alberta, his sound has evolved to include bass music’s most cutting-edge developments and auditory materials.
Whether half time, drum and bass, or underground dubstep, Digipunk incorporates progressive sounds with underground classics to design sets for any dancefloor and set time. Festival primetime or intimate club show, he recognizes how disparate sounds impact different environments and has the uncanny ability to adjust accordingly. Playing at Western Canada’s major festivals and club nights, he crafts his sets to match the crowd.
When planning for FutureVibes, developing and mentoring up-and-coming talent is crucial, as is preserving the integrity of genres. It’s something Digipunk takes seriously in DJing, productions, throwing shows, and FutureVibes releases. He can be relied on to make sure the right sounds get to the right ears, a rare talent.
2022 will see Digipunk spending time in the studio, throwing more of his signature parties, as well as continuing to discover, develop, and release music’s next rising stars via FutureVibes. Stay tuned.
