Description

AGOKWE - Unplugged

Written and Performed by Waawaate Fobister

Theatrical One Man Show

Agokwe (written and performed by Waawaate Fobister) is a powerful tale that explores unrequited love between teenage boys – a hockey player and a dancer – from neighboring reserves who connect through a mutual love of movement. But when tragedy intervenes, youth, distance, and isolation strive to pull them apart. This award-winning production, described as a “magnetic plea for tolerance and action” by the Georgia Straight, speaks to bullying, homophobia, unrequited love, social isolation and the lost traditions of the Anishnaabe.

Making Treaty 7 is presenting a special performance of Agokwe (Unplugged) at @thegrandyyc’s Flanagan Theatre on August 29 as part of our Pride Week celebrations.

Agokwe was developed through the Buddies in Bad Times Theatre Young Creators’ Unit and had its world-premiere at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in September 2008.
