FREE WORKSHOP

This workshop is to create awareness and understanding about the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit and gender diverse people in Canada. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to create a ribbon shirt pin as they reflect on what they have learned. Facilitated by Autumn EagleSpeaker.

About Autumn Eaglespeaker: 

Autumn EagleSpeaker is Niitasitapi - Blackfoot (Kainai First Nation) and African American. Her clans are ‘All short Peoples’ & ‘Running Antelope.’ Autumn was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and now resides in Mohkinstsis (Calgary). Autumn is passionate about advocating for Indigenous issues, upholding Indigenous sovereignty and protecting our lands. Autumn has organized and led movements, marches, rallies and vigils for the Indigenous Community in Calgary. To name a few, Autumn organized Calgary Day of Action to recognize Treaty rights in 2007 and was one of the main organizers for Idle No More Calgary from Dec 2011 to 2012. Autumn is a Community organizer. She is the co-founder and curator of the Authentically Indigenous Craft Market (2015), which creates opportunities for local Indigenous artists, makers and creators through craft markets and events. Autumn has organized the University of Calgary's annual Indigenous Graduation powwow for the past thirteen years. Autumn also organizes Elders’ conferences and other events that bring people together. Autumn has been a featured speaker at numerous events on a wide range of topics related to Indigeneity. Most recently spoke at TedXYYC on Indigenous Resiliency and Intergenerational Trauma. Autumn has hosted and has been a speaker for the Sisters In Spirit Calgary march and vigil to honour MMIWG2S+. Autumn is also an entrepreneur, designing her own line of jewelry: Falling Leaves Designs. Autumn was honoured as a recipient of the Canada 150 Senate Medal for her work for Outstanding Volunteerism in 2017, the Esquao Award for Community Service in 2004 and the City of Calgary Youth Achievement Award many moons ago in 2002. Autumn’s most significant accomplishment in life is being the mother of six amazing children; Willow, Rain, Sky, Cloud, Thunder and Rosie.
