Jews of Missouri: An Ornament to Israel – Mara W. Cohen Ioannides

“How Jews Helped Create Missouri” Presentation by Dr. Mara W. Cohen Ioannides, Senior Instructor of English at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Iaonnides is the author of “Creating Community: The Jews of Springfield, Missouri,“ published in 2021 by the Greene County Historical Society and also “Jews of Missouri: an ornament to Israel,” published in 2021 by the Ozarks Studies Institute, an initiative of the Missouri State University Libraries. She is the president of the Midwest Jewish Studies Association and also president of the Ozarks Studies Association. This program took place in the Ozarks Room of the Duane G. Meyer Library at Missouri State University in Springfield on March 8, 2022.
Dr. Iaonnides talks about early American Jewish history; the founding of Missouri; Mississippi River Jewish settlements; Missouri River Jewish settlements; Southwest Missouri Jewish settlements; Jewish family networks; Jewish population statistics for Missouri; the state’s first Jewish congregation in St. Louis; first Rabbi west of the Mississippi River; and congregations in Kansas City, St. Joseph, Springfield, Jefferson City, and Joplin.

The Art Of Old Time Black and White Photography – David Henschel

This 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch "Coffee Table" bound book uses the finest grade printer's paper to illustrate and illuminate its two hundred black and white images presented from the art catalog of David Henschel. The artist's photographs, produced by the "old-time" darkroom techniques, were in use before the advent of digital photography. All images are in the original negative format, uncropped, or otherwise enhanced. Within its introduction, artist Henschel gives credit for the methods and results he has achieved to such photography greats as Alfred Stieglitz and Berenice Abbott.
