About Mike Tod

Mike Tod is a wry and raspy tenor who sings with conviction and candor. He sings well-worn traditionals, researches their roots, and shares them in a fashion that feels authentically of another time, while still firmly planted in the present. He forges old-time songs into historical epics, conjuring visions of western portraits and weathered landscapes.

With his debut studio release, the Mike Tod LP (April 2023), Tod stepped boldly forward as a prominent voice in Canadian music. It debuted at #1 on CJSW’s Folk Chart, #3 on the National Earshot Top 50 Chart, and #3 on CKUA’s Top 30 Chart; received airplay and featured profiles on CBC Music and NPR; and has been streamed over 430K times on Spotify. It was hailed as, “a masterclass in folk Americana” (Prism Reviews, US), “gorgeously dark” (Folk Radio UK), with Tod being called “a master at weaving together the past and present” (MusicNGear, EU). While the instrumentation honours the history of the genre, the expansive, cinematic arrangements focus Tod’s vision through a modern lens, immersing listeners in a truly unique experience of traditional songs recorded with modern clarity and true grit.

It's said to know where we’re going we must know where we’ve been. Mike Tod reminds us that the past, present, and future are inexorably linked in song.
