Malia Rogers Trio

Nova Scotia raised, Ottawa based singer-songwriter Malia Rogers has a clear musical mission: be the first person in the room to drop her shield, and in doing so, move others to lower their own. Her introspective, conversational folk offerings carefully balance melancholy and hope, touching audiences with precise lyricism, warm alto vocals, and gentle wit. 
Having released her debut EP at Red Bird last May and more recently opened for Jim Bryson’s midwinter shows, Malia is thrilled to be back at Red Bird in a trio with her friends Emma Bayash (vocals/keys) and Erik Johnson-Scherger (strings) - as well as very special guest Mallory Chipman, who will open the show in a duo with Brett Hansen. 

Audiences can expect stirring celtic and bluegrass-inspired melodies, relatable stories about love, grief, and self-discovery, intricate harmonies supported by fingerstyle guitar and clawhammer banjo, and maybe even a cross-act collaboration or two. 
With gentle wit and easy vulnerability, Malia invites you into her heart the way she would invite you into her family home on the East Coast: put down the heavy bags, stay as long as you need, and take something with you when you go.

Mallory Chipman
Hailed as “this generation’s Joan Baez”, Mallory Chipman is an award-winning folk artist, celebrated for her acrobatic vocals, ear catching melodies, and the expert way she weaves salient truth and stories into song. Her recent album, Songs to a Wild God, hit #5 on the Folk International Charts, and has been featured on NPR, CBC, and SiriusXM Radio. She has opened for Jann Arden, Madeleine Peyroux, and has sung back-up for the legendary rock band, Heart, but most notably she continues to stun with her solo project, described as “profoundly moving” by Celtic Music Radio. With a vast touring history and new album on the way in early 2027, Chipman crafts songs that feel timeless, placing her firmly within the lineage of great storytellers” (Happy Mag Australia), establishing her as an instant classic in the Canadian roots music scene. She is currently nominated for Solo Artist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and Roots Artist of the Year at the Country Music Alberta Awards.

With sonic references ranging from Feist and Aoife O'Donovan to Dan Mangan and Noah Kahan, Malia draws on folk, bluegrass, and celtic influences to explore enduring themes of identity, relationships, grief, growth, and the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of our lives. Her debut six-song EP Chameleon is "a sonic snapshot of becoming — a musical tide chart that captures the motion of identity, grief, and love in all their patient, persistent forms” (Vocal Media). Her recent single “Sunlight (A Good Death)” is the first in a song cycle exploring non-romantic love across the life course. Alongside her solo project, Malia is also a sought-after session vocalist and multi-instrumentalist (guitar, banjo, mandolin, percussion). She regularly tours and records for Jessica Pearson & The East Wind and has also toured for Ian Sherwood and Daniel James McFadyen, as well as performed onstage as an actor-musician for Theatre Gargantua, Neptune Theatre and Theatre of the Beat.
