Description

Slow down. Focus your attention. Shape something living.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll step into the mindful craft of bonsai—a centuries-old practice rooted in patience, presence, and a deep relationship with nature. More than gardening, bonsai is a creative meditation that invites curiosity, calm, and care through the simple act of working with your hands.

Guided by Darren Melhus, bonsai artist and educator with over 25 years of experience, this session blends traditional techniques with an accessible, West Coast approach. Known for making bonsai approachable and deeply rewarding, Darren supports participants in building both confidence and connection—whether you’re brand new or returning to the craft.

You’ll begin with a short introduction to the wellness benefits of bonsai, exploring how shaping and tending to trees can foster creativity, reduce stress, and deepen your connection to the natural world. From there, you’ll select a tree suited to your home environment—so the experience continues long after Nourish.

With step-by-step guidance, you’ll learn the fundamentals of bonsai styling, including pruning, wiring, and shaping, while working on your own tree with personalized support throughout.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with:
• Your own styled bonsai tree
• Practical knowledge to care for it
• A species-specific care guide
• The confidence to continue your bonsai journey

Sometimes the most powerful way to nourish your mind is simply to create—slowly, intentionally, and in relationship with something living.

All tools and materials are provided. No experience required—just curiosity.
