Description
One-Day Workshop for ages 16+
Students learn modern computer-based music composition and production techniques, with no previous musical training or experience necessary. Using a digital audio workstation (DAW), they learn basic techniques for creating interesting musical loops from widely available libraries of free sounds. Layering and sequencing loops allows creation of complete musical compositions, which they learn to record and produce live.
Students also learn to create and perform collaboratively, how to incorporate vocals and short recordings of live instrument performance, and how to tune and sculpt the final sound to their taste. Interspersed with the creative content is educational material on the physics of sound, electronic music theory, and conventional music theory. It is all delivered in a fun and interactive way with each team of two students having their own music production station.
