Live Music at The Nick presents John Hewitt / New Americans and The Three Sisters

There are bands, artists and songwriters that mimic and imitate but John Hewitt absorbs and reimagines. John has produced 9 full length studio albums and a book since March of 2020.  Taking inspiration from the honest tradition of true folk music you’ll hear old tales of prairie murder, historical stories marinated with poetic imagery reminiscent of the songwriters of the 60’s folk revival.  John’s latest releases, Which Side Are you On?, a solo folk record, and Chaos & Conversation, a double Band album to be released in May ’26.  With his backing group the New Americans, Edmonton virtuosos Benjamin Williams and Connor Miskiman, melodic hooks are doused in sweeping three part harmony. The band in full form ranges from soft folk to blues rock.  John Hewitt is a master, a choreographer of sound, a man of many hats all worn with style with a dream bigger than the world around him.

The Three Sisters are a joyful Bow Valley trio of singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists. Names after the iconic local mountain range, and deeply inspired by the landscapes around them, rich harmonies form the bedrock for this trio as they traverse folk, jazz, opera, and original music. Since their inception in 2024, the trio has delighted audiences at artsPlace Canmore, the Canmore Folk Music Festival, Dunn Folkin’ Around, and recently completed their first Western Canadian tour. Their members include YYC’s 2025 Emerging Artist and Banff’s Poet Laureate. Their set is melodically spellbinding and makes you pause, breathe deeper, and feel it all.
