Description

March Sisters for this performance: Victoria, Kendra, Finn-Lee, Larissa

Based on the book by Louisa May Alcott, adapted by Isabella Russell-Ides

Produced by special arrangement with YouthPLAYS (www.youthplays.com).

In this classic tale of four sisters dealing with the deprivations of the Civil War, we meet the fiercely independent Jo, the romantic Meg, the devoted Beth, and the mischievous young Amy. These Victorian girls have so much Yankee grit they can't be subdued by circumstance. They make Christmas merry on mere pennies, attend balls in old frocks; they fight, forgive, fall in love, fail, and strive to become the women they were meant to be. One day, one of the sisters will put pen to page and tell their story. At each performance expect a visit from the famous author of Little Women, Louisa May Alcott, who promises to make some startling revelations...

Distort prioritizes inclusivity and accessibility. We ask our team to come as they are and we celebrate and showcase that. In rehearsals for this production, the cast focused on connecting to characters and circumstances. Together, the cast dove into research and text work to make their intentions clear and captivating. These 22 performers range from long-time actors to first-time thespians, and each of them have developed key theatre skills in the process!

  • We will offer a touch tour from 11-11:30am before the show to anyone who wants to explore the stage and get a feel for the set/costumes. We will also give examples of some of the sound effects in the show. This is primarily for audiences who are blind/low-vision, but all are welcome to experience it!
  • House lights will remain on at 30% for the whole show.
  • You can expect audience members to possibly be moving in their seats or making sounds during the production.
  • At any time, audience members can get up to leave and return.

Accessibility:

  • Wheelchair accessible parking and entrance. 20 accessible parking spots!
  • Floor-level accessible seating.
  • Lift to get up to the button-operated larger bathroom.
  • Access table (ear plugs, colouring pages, fidget toys, sunglasses, etc.)
  • Movement space - we have classroom 140 booked where the production will be projected. If you need to step out of the theatre space for any reason, you can continue watching the show here.
  • Low sensory space - this will be a quiet corner set up with pillows, blankets, and fidget toys if anything becomes overwhelming and you need to step away.

Parking:

  • If you're using the stair entrance, park in the University of Sudbury lot on Manitou road.
  • For accessible parking or if taking GOVA+, continue further than the stair entrance and turn left before the roundabout. Continue up that road and the accessible doors will be on your left and parking spots on your right.
  • There will be parking attendants to direct you day-of.
