Description
THIRD ACTion Film Festival invites you to share and connect over a wonderful film and discussion.
The event starts with a viewing of Light Years followed by a hosted discussion.
THIS FILM IS AVAILABLE ACROSS CANADA AND NORTH AMERICA.
FILM SYNOPSIS
Light Years introduces Dee, a writer and professor who savors her life-long passion for African dance; Anita, whose work as an actress, dancer, playwright and poet spans eight decades; and Paul, who started painting at 51 and helps to redefine “retirement.”
Dee, Anita and Paul know that whether eighteen or eighty, we all need meaningful relationships, a sense of purpose, and the chance to express ourselves. They reveal that the second half of life can actually be a time of rediscovery and renewal, of giving back, and growing into more authentic versions of ourselves.
This is the heartbeat of Light Years: the choice to remain engaged in community, to continue learning, giving back, and growing as we grow older.
As their stories unfold over several years, Dee, Anita and Paul face challenges and threats to their independence. Each responds with a resiliency that transcends those challenges and affirms our potential for renewal at any age.
SPEAKER
Claire Marie Panke is both a filmmaker and a registered nurse. With Light Years, Claire hopes to use the power of media to inspire a broad audience to reimagine later life.
Her first film A Chance to Grow explores the other end of life as it follows three preemie babies and their families through the harrowing beginning of their lives. This award winning film was broadcast on The Discovery Channel, National Geographic and at multiple other international venues.
She has also made three short documentaries and serves on several documentary judging panels, including the News & Documentary Emmy Awards. Claire is also a photographer and has been the spokesperson for a national campaign in the United States to protect health care funding.
