Lazarettes, from Toronto, Canada, are currently playing out in support of their most recent album Sweet Misery, produced by Ron Hawkins of the Lowest of the Low. The band plays alternative roots rock filled with harmony and storytelling underpinned by earworms of the first order. As Steve Stanley, one of Canada's journeymen songwriters and host of Northern Wish radio, says, of Lazarettes - "artists standing up against fascism is where it's at."

Lazarettes began as a collective of musicians featuring members of Fembots and Sour Landslide, releasing records and performing in and around Toronto, Canada. When the call came to play a fateful show at Toronto's legendary Horseshoe Tavern and not all members could assemble, principal songwriter Chris Tait called on guitarist Richard Peirce, songwriter/musician Bryce Thomas, bassist Chris Monster and legendary drummer Adam Warner (Ron Sexsmith, Sarah Slean, Sarah Harmer, Bahamas, Royal Wood, Jill Barber,Whitehorse) to fill the void.

Ron Hawkins, long a friend of the group's members, joined on to helm the recording at Union Sound with engineer Chris Stringer. What happened next was three days of bottling the lightning the band suddenly found themselves riding.

Today, with the first single “Knock is at the Door” out and the band touring in support of the Sweet Misery album, Lazarettes is coming into its own with a raucous live show featuring sharp, literate songwriting, driving rhythms and singalong harmonies. Lazarettes are aimed at your heart and your head.

Le groupe Lazarettes, originaire de Toronto, au Canada, est actuellement en tournée pour promouvoir son dernier album Sweet Misery, produit par Ron Hawkins de Lowest of the Low. Le groupe joue un rock alternatif aux racines profondes, riche en harmonies et en récits, soutenu par des mélodies entraînantes de premier ordre. Comme le dit Steve Stanley, l'un des auteurs-compositeurs chevronnés du Canada et animateur de l'émission Northern Wish, à propos de Lazarettes : « Les artistes qui s'opposent au fascisme, c'est ça qui compte. »

Lazarettes a débuté comme un collectif de musiciens comprenant des membres de Fembots et Sour Landslide, qui sortaient des disques et se produisaient à Toronto et dans les environs, au Canada. Lorsqu'ils ont été invités à jouer un concert décisif au légendaire Horseshoe Tavern de Toronto et que tous les membres n'ont pas pu se réunir, le compositeur principal Chris Tait a fait appel au guitariste Richard Peirce, au compositeur/musicien Bryce Thomas, au bassiste Chris Monster et au légendaire batteur Adam Warner (Ron Sexsmith, Sarah Slean, Sarah Harmer, Bahamas, Royal Wood, Jill Barber, Whitehorse) pour combler le vide.

Ron Hawkins, ami de longue date des membres du groupe, s'est joint à eux pour diriger l'enregistrement à Union Sound avec l'ingénieur Chris Stringer. Ce qui s'est passé ensuite, ce sont trois jours où le groupe a su saisir l'occasion qui s'offrait à lui.

Aujourd'hui, avec la sortie du premier single « Knock is at the Door » et la tournée du groupe pour promouvoir l'album Sweet Misery, Lazarettes s'impose avec un spectacle live endiablé, caractérisé par des compositions intelligentes et pointues, des rythmes entraînants et des harmonies qui donnent envie de chanter en chœur.
