Description

Action at a Distance

Landings for Seven

Landings for Seven is an evocative work featuring seven artists that invites audiences to pause and reflect on the interplay of time and space within the politics of stairwells. These often-overlooked areas serve as both refuge and transitional spaces, where secrets are kept and stories unfold. Drawing from the rich narrative of Between the Landings, created in collaboration in 2024 with Justin Calvadores (BC) and Dorchel Haqq (NY), this performance challenges viewers to linger in liminal zones typically meant for movement. By engaging with sound and memory, Landings for Seven explores the ascent and descent of our experiences, examining how these spaces shape our connections to one another and to the city around us.

Presented by Action at a Distance in partnership with The Dance Centre and the PuSh Industry Series.

Action at a Distance is based on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Squamish, Stó:lō, Tsleil-Waututh, and Musqueam Nations. Led by Artistic Director Vanessa Goodman and Artistic Producer Hilary Maxwell, the company delves into themes of liminality through sonic and physical choreography. Their work aims to emphasize the interconnectedness of bodies, technology, and nature. With immersive performances that challenge traditional hierarchies, they promote collaboration and intimacy, aiming to redefine what it means to be human in a transforming world. The company has garnered numerous awards and has toured extensively throughout Canada and internationally.

  • Duration: 30 minutes. Viewers are free to move around and view the work from different floors.
  • Capacity is limited, early registration is advised.
  • Accessibility: The work takes place in the stairwells. There are multiple sites where it can be viewed that are wheelchair-accessible via elevator. Please contact us if you require any assistance.
