Gabriel Vizcaino Quintet

For his debut performance with the Kelowna Jazz Society, guitarist Gabriel Vizcaino brings an ambitious, two-part musical journey to the stage, backed by a stellar quintet. The evening opens with a deep dive into the music of Pat Metheny, a primary inspiration for Gabriel’s own artistic path. Metheny famously noted that he prefers to think of music by "what it has in common across genres, rather than what makes it different". A philosophy that drives Gabriel’s own boundary-crossing style. The second set pivots to the vibrant rhythms of Latin and Ecuadorian jazz, featuring contemporary arrangements and music written by the very composers who served as Gabriel's mentors in Ecuador. Through the lens of jazz and spontaneous improvisation, this performance serves as a bridge between diverse global influences and personal heritage, uniting them into a single, cohesive, and deeply meaningful expression.
