Description
Rooted in lyricism and adventurous yet spine shivering beautiful harmony, the Anthony Argatoff Quartet brings a fresh voice to the music of Kenny Wheeler, one of Canada’s and music’s best kept secrets. Come hear the quartet tell the rarely told musical story of Wheeler, inducted into the Order of Canada, told by trumpeter Emily Denison, saxophonist Harrison Argatoff, pianist Alexander Argatoff, and bassist Anthony Argatoff. This group is primarily based in Kelowna, with Harrison joining them from Toronto. The Argatoff family (including Emily, who is married to Anthony) is one of Canada’s treasures as a family with such profoundly deep musicality and family synergy (fitting to highlight during the Christmas season).
The quartet will dive into Wheeler’s deep discography, stretching limits and pushing boundaries of Wheeler's compositions. In addition to Wheeler's work, the quartet will explore jazz standards from the library of Billy Strayhorn, Bill Evans, and other notable and fan favourite composers.
