King John brings power, politics and family conflict to life in the atmospheric Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. This new production explores the rise of King John as he attempts to step out of his brother Richard the Lionheart’s shadow and prove himself worthy of the crown.

As rival claims threaten his reign, John becomes increasingly determined to hold on to power, drawing England into political intrigue, conflict and chaos. Set against the intimate candlelit setting of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, Shakespeare’s exploration of leadership, loyalty and legacy takes on a striking new atmosphere.

Directed by Olivier Award-nominated Jaz Woodcock-Stewart in her Globe directorial debut, this production offers a chance to experience one of Shakespeare’s lesser-staged histories in an intimate and atmospheric setting.
