Polly Dactic (Calgary, AB)

Get your natal charts and synths ready, y’all. Polly Dactic answer the age-old question “what happens when you put an air sign and a water sign in a band together?” That’s an age-old question, right? Either way, the result is this electronic, improvisational project from Aquarius Nyssa Brown (Blue Shorts, Hagface) and Scorpio Mathieu Blanchard (Sunglaciers, Crystal Eyes). Together, their bass-heavy and engaging live show was met with positive feedback at this year’s Sled Island, and since Femme Wave is during Scorpio season, you’re in for a wild ride.
Body Lens (Lethbridge, AB)
https://bodylens.bandcamp.com/
Everybody’s fave Lethbdrige weirdos make their Femme Wave debut! Drawing from several eras of post-punk to create moody, angular and spacious sounds, Body Lens are chaotic and focused, dark and uplifting, and entirely groovy. They’ve been supes busy, only performing live for just over a year, but have already released a debut EP, made appearances on several compilation records (CJSW, Grey Records, Cups N Cakes) and have toured from Vancouver to Winnipeg. This is that band that shows up in your Instagram stories and you’re like, “goddammit why did I miss that show?” Don’t do that to yourself again!
