Description
In recognition of National Day for Truth & Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day on Friday September 30, 2022, Okotoks community members are invited to participate in a Blanket Exercise on September 9 from 9am – 12 noon in the gym at the Okotoks Recreation Centre (99 Okotoks Drive). Please RSVP by Saturday, September 3, as there are only 25 spaces available.
This Blanket Exercise is facilitated by Lisa L’Hirondelle, spirit name Boss Lady Sitting Woman. Lisa is Metis Cree/French and has a Bachelor of Sociology from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Calgary. The Blanket Exercise is an experiential workshop that explores the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Blankets arranged on the floor represent land and participants are invited to step into the roles of First Nations, Inuit and later, Métis peoples.
