JULIAN TAYLOR & LOGAN STAATS with Ollee Owens

Chinook Musical Society presents nine "Saturday Night Special" concerts every year, featuring a range of genres from folk and country, to blues, Celtic and folk rock. While we do present acts from all over North America, and some international, we are especially proud to showcase our Canadian and local Alberta artists.
The evening starts with one set from our opening artist, followed by two sets from our headliner.

On November 22, 2025 we have a fantastic triple header with Julian Taylor & Logan Staats, and Ollee Owens.

Critically acclaimed songwriters Julian Taylor and Logan Staats will join forces to bring us an incredible night of songs and stories. Presented in an acoustic format, the night promises musical surprises and heartfelt storytelling.

With his characteristic warmth and charisma, Julian Taylor has enthralled audiences for over 25 years. His songs always resonate with nearly everyone who listens closely.
It’s rare in this era to see an artist build slowly and reach a new level of widespread acclaim two decades into their career. But Julian’s ethos, work ethic, and artistry have always had a timeless quality to them. And so, he’s built things slowly in a DIY fashion, withstanding highs, and lows along the way, ultimately reaching the peak of his powers with his latest solo work. Fans and critics have noticed, granting Julian the Solo Artist of the Year honour at the Canadian Folk Music Awards (and nomination in the English Songwriter category), plus two Juno Award nominations in 2021, as well as a Polaris Music Prize nomination.  Julian is also the host of “Julian Taylor’s Jukebox” on CKUA.

Mohawk rocker turned folk and soul musician Logan Staats began as a diamond in the rough on the streets of Brantford, Ontario. He had no formal musical training, no connections, just a good ear and raw lyrical talent- and always a guitar in hand. He played the local circuit for years before his 2015 debut release ‘Goodbye Goldia’. He went on to win CTV’s ‘The Launch’ in 2018, gaining commercial success and touring across North America and Europe. His sound draws heavily from the rich blues and rock legacy of Six Nations and his music has garnered a Juno nomination, multiple Native American Music Awards, and the SOCAN Indigenous Songwriter of the year.

Kicking the evening off is Calgary’s own Ollee Owens. With the warmth of Mavis Staples, and soulful delivery of Bonnie Raitt, Ollee draws on a wealth of experience, acknowledging the struggles of life while never losing sight of what truly matters. Far more than a vocal powerhouse, her live performances are an unforgettable, emotionally charged musical experience moving both body and soul.
