JOSHUA – An Oratorio by G. F. Handel

With chamber orchestra, 4 vocal soloists. This stirring, picturesque 1748 work tells the story of the Children of Israel as they pass over the River Jordan into the land of Canaan.  During a battle, the sun and moon are stopped in their course, and the triumphant victors are saluted in the famous “See, the conquering hero comes”.   This is the 3rd performance by The Festival Chorus, last performed in 2004.   The epic story of the Children of Israel as they pass into a new land – a story to inspire our own times. Heroic battles, the fall of Jericho, the halting of the sun and moon… all portrayed with Handel’s incomparable genius.
