Description
Step back in time to 1957 and relive the electrifying sounds of early rock and roll! Musician and storyteller Steve Olson uncovers the incredible true story of the concert by four future Hall of Famers -- Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Wanda Jackson -- that shook his hometown of Camrose. Using classic guitars, historic photos, and masterful storytelling, Olson brings to life this "rockabilly roadtrip" from Memphis to small-town Alberta. Don't miss this one-man rockabilly spectacle where legendary songs, untold history, and nostalgia collide!
“More than one music fan…have wished for a time machine…to wedge into those packed auditoriums on the vast plains and in the Canadian Rockies…to see Johnny Cash [& The Rockabillies] young and raw and wild, singing into Art Deco microphones that looked like something that shook loose off the hood of an Oldsmobile…” – Rick Bragg
“I had the pleasure of witnessing a 15-minute concept presentation of this performance at the Alberta Showcase in October 2024. I was impressed by Mr. Olson's artistry and the compelling nature of the show. With the combination of storytelling, music, and projections, I am confident that Johnny Cash & The Rockabillies will resonate strongly with our community and audiences across Canada. I was particularly drawn to this production as it uniquely a rural prairie story.”
-Nick Beach, General Manager, Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre

Stephen Olson is a classically-trained guitarist who learned to play Chet Atkins thumb-picking from his Uncle Lyndy. By playing bass and melody lines simultaneously, Stephen can authentically replicate the country and rockabilly sounds of the 1950s. Stephen draws the audiences in with his electric performances and stories from this golden era of music.
