Born in 1960 in Paris, France, now also an American and Canadian citizen, self-taught pianist and composer Jean-Michel Pilc has performed with numerous jazz giants: Roy Haynes, Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, Marcus Miller, Kenny Garrett, Chris Potter, John Abercrombie, Mingus Dynasty & Big Band, Richard Bona, and many others. He has also worked with Harry Belafonte, as his musical director and pianist, and has performed a duet with the legendary opera singer Jessye Norman.
Since he became a professional musician in the late 80’s, Jean-Michel has been very active internationally, touring over 60 countries including Europe, Japan, South America, the USA and Canada.
Jean-Michel moved to New York City in 1995 and released multiple acclaimed recordings, including Welcome Home (2002), Cardinal Points, and several trio and solo albums. His project Threedom (2011), featuring François Moutin & Ari Hoenig, received critical acclaim.
In 2013, Jean-Michel was granted the prestigious Fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
Jean-Michel joined the Jazz Faculty at The Schulich School of Music of McGill University in Montreal, where he is now a tenured Full Professor.
Jean-Michel is now a Justin Time Recording Artist and has released several albums on the label.

From Iceland and Denmark to Canada and the USA, from pop-inflected grooves to jazz-rock, straight-ahead swing, and free exploration, the Showcase offers a rich cross-section of today’s global jazz landscape. It’s a true feast - equally inviting for jazz newcomers as it is satisfying for the most discerning jazz aficionados.
