Susan Henley & Patti Loach: Out of the Question presented as part of JazzInToronto's All That Cabaret Series

Live in the Green Sanderson Hall at Hugh's Room, 296 Broadview Avenue

Show at 8pm, Doors at 7pm
$40+ in advance, $47+at the door

Described as “witty, nostalgic, and thoroughly entertaining”, Questions is a two-woman
show that revolves around songs that ask and answer.
Susan Henley and Patti Loach share stories and songs that range from poignant to
preposterous, drawn from the realms of cabaret, pop, film, opera, country and jazz.
Audiences are given insight into the context of the songs and the women who perform
them and will come away from the evening knowing they have just witnessed a “tightly
woven musical journey as enchanting as it was accomplished”. Brenda Heatherington,
artistic director.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve laughed out loud like I did that night… The best evening
I’ve had in a long time.” Elaine Overholt, producer, vocal coach for film/tv/stage
“I was delighted to discover that, after so many years of both attending and creating
musical theatre and cabaret, I can still be so deeply moved and utterly entertained by
these two impressively talented performers.” Leslie Arden, composer

SUSAN HENLEY:

“Mabel Mercer is considered the greatest of all cabaret singers. Her greatest gift: every
time she sang, she told us the piercing truth – good and bad – about love. Susan
possesses the same kind of instinct for how to “sell” a song as Mabel Mercer did.” David
Ferry, actor, director, dramaturge, AD Appledore Productions.
Susan brings to the stage decades of experience as an actor at Soulpepper (Spoon
River), Stratford (Irma La Douce), the Charlottetown Festival (Anne of Green Gables),
Mirvish (Hairspray), and YPT (The Princess and the Handmaiden) to name but a few.

PATTI LOACH:

Patti Loach is a pint-sized, flaxen-haired dynamo, whose fingers have flown across
piano keys since she was six years old. A graduate of both the Royal Conservatory of
Music and the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music, she initially trained as a classical
pianist but quickly fell in love with a colourful array of more-contemporary genres,
including musical theatre, the Great American Songbook, and the anything-goes, wild-
and-wonderful world of cabaret, which helped her fine-tune her skills, hone her artistry
and truly flourish as a performer. Described by The Toronto Star critic Richard

Ouzounian as "a chameleon of the keyboard, playing brilliantly in so many different
styles,” Patti is an engaging storyteller, a decent cook, a terrible clarinet player, and a
devoted wife, mother and friend whose piano-playing prowess is rivalled only by her
innate collaborative spirit – both of which have made her a much sought-after talent.
Monday November 24.
