An evening of discussion with New York Stonewall Uprising Activist, Martin Boyce, and local Club Carousel founder, Lois Szabo.
Get INVOLVED as they share their perspective and experiences on civil rights and liberation movements.

Doors open at 7:00pm with cash bar.

Program begins at 7:30pm.  A Q&A period will follow the program, along with a door prize raffle.

Martin was born in New York, NY. He was a regular of the Stonewall Inn, and on June 28, 1969, he was a participant in the Stonewall Riots (also known as the Stonewall Uprising).  He was involved in the post Mattachine Society gay rights movements that sought to push gay activism beyond its traditional approach and embrace the diversity in our community by challenging racism, sexism and transphobia in the community. 

For more than 50 years, Lois has been a leader and organizer of Calgary’s LGBTQ2 community. Lois is the last surviving founder of Club Carousel – Calgary’s first gay club, incorporated in March 1970 – despite Calgary Police opposition. She was one of five individuals who dared to sign the club’s incorporation papers when homophobia and discrimination were the norms in Calgary, and few would sign on the dotted line.

As part of this event, Lawrence Interior Design Studio Inc. will be making a donation to both non-profit groups to thank our speakers for sharing their experience.  We encourage our attendees to consider making a donation to either one of these groups in support of the great ongoing work they do.
