Indigenous Perspectives: Art & Culinary Exploration - 3-Day Camp (Ages 10-12)

Join our dynamic "Indigenous Perspectives" camp on June 12-14, immersing young minds in the art and culinary traditions of indigenous cultures worldwide. From hands-on art workshops exploring pottery, weaving, beadwork, and drumming to interactive culinary sessions discovering diverse flavors and techniques, this transformative camp fosters creativity and cultural appreciation. Guided by chefs and experts, participants gain insights into the cultural significance of indigenous art and cuisine. Join us for a captivating journey of exploration, artistic expression, and culinary discovery, fostering a deep connection to the vibrant tapestry of indigenous cultures.

 

Day 1 (8:15 AM - 3:15 PM) - Artistic Heritage Unveiled:

Drop-off (8:15 AM - 8:30 AM)

Morning (8:30 AM - 11:15 AM):

  - Culinary introduction: Basic understanding of indigenous ingredients.

  - Guided discussions on the intersection of art and culinary traditions.

Lunch / Recess (11:30 AM - 12:30 PM):

  - Educational and active activity that incorporates forms of art with movement

  - Cooldown video session featuring artist Bob Ross

Afternoon (12:45 PM - 3:15 PM):

 

  - Indigenous art workshops (pottery, weaving, beadwork, drumming).

  - Hands-on activities exploring cultural significance.

 

Pick-Up (3:15 PM - 3:30 PM)

 

Day 2 (8:15 AM - 3:15 PM) - Culinary Adventures Begin:

Morning (8:30 AM - 11:15 AM):

  - Artistic expression: Hands-on exploration of selected indigenous art forms.

  - Discussions on the role of art in preserving cultural identity.

 

Lunch / Recess (11:30 AM - 12:30 PM):

  - Educational and active activity that incorporates forms of art with movement

  - Student interviews for gallery showcase film

Afternoon (12:30 PM - 3:15 PM):

 

  - Culinary workshops: Exploring indigenous cooking methods.

  - Interactive sessions on traditional dishes' stories and cultural significance.

Day 3 (8:15 AM - 3:15 PM) - Bridging Art and Flavor:

Morning (8:30 AM - 11:15 AM):

  - Culinary synthesis: Preparation and shared enjoyment of unique recipes.

  - Reflections on the importance of cultural competence in artistic and culinary exploration.

  - Educational and active activity that incorporates forms of art with movement

  - Cooldown video session featuring artist Bob Ross

Afternoon (12:30 PM - 2:45 PM):

 

  - Collaborative project: Integrating indigenous artistry with culinary elements.

  - In-depth discussions on the interconnectedness of art and cuisine.

Gallery Showcase (2:45 PM - 3:30 PM)

 

Friday Showcase in the Gallery:

- Culmination of art and culinary creations in a grand gallery showcase.

- Parents, family, and friends are invited to witness and celebrate the vibrant tapestry of indigenous cultures.

- Powerful reminder of cultural appreciation, creativity, and connections forged during the transformative summer camp experience.

If your cancellation is at least 4 days or more in advance of the class/event, you will receive a full refund. If your cancellation is less than 4 days in advance, you will receive a credit to attend a future class/event. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.
