Incite March 31: Hooked with Michael Moss

Incite is a free series and is presented in partnership with the Vancouver Public Library.

Join us on March 31 for a special edition of Incite featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of Salt Sugar Fat, Michael Moss, as he takes us on a journey to discover how food companies have exploited our most fundamental evolutionary instincts to get us hooked on processed foods.

In his latest book, Hooked, Moss explores the science of addiction and uncovers what the scientific and medical communities—as well as food manufacturers—already know, which is that food can, in some cases, be even more addictive than alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs.

In this special presentation, Moss will discuss his research and troubling findings and guide viewers through a gripping account of the legal battles, insidious marketing campaigns, and cutting-edge food science that have brought the world to its current public health crisis. He will then chat with Globe and Mail health journalist, Andrea Woo, about this pressing topic. Afterwards, they’ll open the floor to audience questions for a deeper dive into the contrast between what consumers know and what these companies want to keep hidden.
