Description
Governments and policy designers often promise that digital ID is secure, convenient, and profitable. While some digital ID frameworks have beneficial features, the potentially harmful impacts of digital ID has not been adequately considered by governments or policy designers. Digital ID may have harmful impacts on security, equality, expression, and privacy. Regarding privacy, some digital ID programs will allow governments to capture personal information about Canadians, including information about their bodies, behaviours, interests, mobility patterns, and financial transactions. This will expose Canadians to a broad range of harms.
This conversation will empower you to understand Digital ID, your privacy rights, and the risks associated with Digital ID programs in Canada today. (This conversation will also briefly explore social credit systems, AI, and biometrics.)
