Description

Improv 302: Story

This is a six week course with sessions running 7:30-9:30pm on the following Wednesdays:

September 10, 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15.

Classes are for students aged 18+

Prerequisites: Improv 101 & 201, or 30 hours of improv experience, or equivalent. Email Devin if you have questions about your level of improv.

Telling effective and entertaining stories is what improvisers strive to do! A strong beginning, surprising middle, and satisfying ending are the equation to a great improvised story. Put your skills to work creating scenes your audience will love, in this intermediate workshop.

Note: This class has reached enough registrations to split into two classes running simultaneously! Students will be given the option to indicate a preference for instructors and/or classmates that they wish to be placed with. These requests will be dealt with as they come in. In the case of conflicting requests, priority will be given to instructor requests over classmate requests, and specific requests over vague requests. Maintaining equal class sizes will be a top priority. Send placement requests to Devin!

Instructor (Class 1): Francis Taman

A graduate of Mount Royal University and the Kinkonauts’ Conservatory Programs, Francis’ improv journey began as a teacher in rural Alberta with a copy of Keith Johnstone’s Impro and a burning desire to do improv. In the intervening years, Francis has lectured and taught legal, improv and communication skills in Canada, the United States and Australia. He is currently completing his Master’s of Education in Adult Education where his thesis is focused on the use of improv to reduce public speaking anxiety.

Instructor (Class 2): Christopher Ford

Christopher Ford is one of the original bad boys of comedy and one of the original very good boys of earning trips to the candy store with his mommy.  He has taught people of all ages to improvise, act, sing, dance, and play Hot Cross Buns on the recorder, and he'd be happy to teach you, too.  Chris has performed regularly with the Kinkonauts for 7 years in shows like Improvised Clue, Improv: The Musical, and Good Sport! and Starfleet Confidential (both of which he produces).  He acts regularly in theatre around our fair city in productions for Morpheus, Simply Theatre, and Jubilations, and is the proud co-father of both Weird Pal (Calgary's quarterly song parody night) and the weekly Villains of Comedy (Calgary's dedicated alt comedy stage).
