Description
The Kinkonauts, Calgary's Improv Lab, has delighted audiences with extraordinary unscripted theatre since 2006. Every show is a unique, never to be repeated adventure. Enjoy the tightrope thrill of performers living completely in the moment. Improvised stories and characters you'll still be laughing about at the bar later.
This is a six week course with sessions running 7:30-9:30pm on the following Wednesdays:
July 9, 16, 23, August 6, 13, 20, 27. (No class July 30th)
Next offering: Wednesdays July 9 - August 27, 2025.
Classes are for students aged 18+
Note: This class has reached enough registrations to be split into two classes! If you are signing up with someone and wish to ensure you are placed in the same class, or if you have an instructor preference please email Devin after registering! (Preferences will be honoured as much as possible, but equal class sizes will be the first priority)
Prerequisites: Improv 101 & 201 (formerly Intro to Improv Part 1 & 2), or 30 hours of improv experience, or equivalent. Email Devin if you have questions about your level of improv.
Characters are core to every improv scene. Learn tools to create rich, detailed characters in the blink of an eye. Develop your skills in forming great relationships and onstage chemistry with your scene partners. This is a six week course.
Anton Matyushin is a comedian based in Calgary. With over 10 years of experience combined in improv, standup, and sketch, he's performed on stages all across the country, and has trained at various renowned comedy theatres in North America such as the iO and The Annoyance in Chicago.
Devin Kotani (he/him) holds a BFA in drama with a focus in acting from the University of Calgary, and has been practicing and performing improv for over 10 years. Joining the Kinkonauts at the end of 2021 for the abridged 2022 season, Devin has performed with such groups as KFP, Wuthering Frights, and Improvised Romeo and Juliet. He has also acted as an instructor for the Calgary Improv School and the Accelerator drop-in class, and is currently the Director of the Calgary Improv School. Devin is currently pursuing a BA in psychology at the University of Calgary, and is very interested in exploring the ways psychology and live performance interact.
