Description
This is a six week course with sessions running 2-4pm on the following Saturdays:
September 13, 20, 27, October 4, 11, 18.
Classes are for students aged 18+
Maybe you’ve heard the amazing ways improv helps with creativity and communication. Or maybe you’ve seen a show and thought: “I want to do that one day!” Either way, Improv 101 is the place to start!
Learn the basics of improv in a fun, safe, and low-pressure environment, taught by one of the fantastic Kinkonauts instructors.
This is Part 1 of a two-part introduction course – each part is six weeks long. It is offered multiple times throughout the year.
This class assumes students are starting with no improv experience. If you have some improv experience already, email Devin to see which class would be appropriate for you.
Note: This class has reached enough registrations to split into two classes running simultaneously! Students will be given the option to indicate a preference for instructors and/or classmates that they wish to be placed with. These requests will be dealt with as they come in. In the case of conflicting requests, priority will be given to instructor requests over classmate requests, and specific requests over vague requests. Maintaining equal class sizes will be a top priority. Send placement requests to Devin!
Jordan Lane (he/him) has been performing in Calgary for 25 years as a musician and improvisor. In 2016 he joined the Kinkonauts, where he co-directs Conservatory, teaches with Calgary Improv School and runs the Highschool Drop-In program.
Aurora (she/her) is a performer, actor and avid improviser with over 10 years of experience performing and creating improv. She has called The Kinkonauts her improv home for these past 10 years and has a special interest in long form improv that focuses on character relationships and grounded, emotional scene work. She has directed, devised, and performed in too many improv shows to count over the years, but a few special highlights for her are:
Heartstrings: An Improvised Theatrical Experience Exploring Queer Love and Relationships / Two Girls Improv / Directed by Owen Chan
Wuthering Frights: An Improvised Gothic Novel / The Kinkonauts / Directed by Andy Stefanato
Beauty Love Truth / The Kinkonauts / Directed by Rob Janowski
26 Hour Improv Marathon / The Kinkonauts / Various Shows Devised by Various Peoples
Aurora's main focus as a teacher is to push her students beyond their self limiting beliefs, get them to follow the fear, and to learn that failure is the only way forward.
Right now Aurora can be found teaching through the Calgary Improv School, and performing with her improv duo "Two Girls Improv". "Two Girls Improv" can be found performing in Calgary throughout the year and on Instagram @twogirlsimprov.
