Description

Celebrate the release of art-folk artist Laura Kelsey's debut EP with a live performance featuring Laura and her band, Cosmopolitik, with sets from special guests singer-songwriter Pauline Edwards (Vancouver) and Nanaimo acoustic duo The Honest Frauds.

Tickets are available through Showpass and at the door.

The recently-updated Globe Live Studio offers a state-of-the-art sound system and stage, with seating/table areas and a large dance floor. The kitchen will be open featuring menu items from The Kebap, a Turkish restaurant that served Departure Bay for many years and has now moved to The Globe.

About the Artists:

LAURA KELSEY & COSMOPOLOTIK
Nanaimo locals have heard Laura's voice everywhere from Concerts in the Park and the VIEX to various indoor venues as well as farmers' markets and hockey games. Laura has fronted metal, blues and folk bands for over a decade and now, as a solo artist, she brings these musical influences together to create unique songs inspired by natural West Coast elements, honesty and dreams — all shared with a powerful, emotive voice. Her debut EP Hunting Season will be released in April 2023. Last year, Laura performed at festivals like Islands Folk Festival (Duncan) and Sonic Summer Nights (Vancouver); and was the opening act for Matthew Good on his fall 2022 tour of Vancouver Island. She was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award in 2014 as the singer for a symphonic metal band.

Laura is grateful to perform with her band Cosmopolitik, consisting of Cal Webb on lead guitar, Steve Barraclough on drums and Nyck Machura on bass.

PAULINE EDWARDS

Pauline Edwards writes and sings from personal experience. She has a genuine desire to inspire her listeners to explore their own life experiences, and to discover the potential for positive change through realization and acceptance.

Born to a Canadian mother and Trinidadian father, Pauline grew up listening to renderings of the great calypso, soca, classical, and jazz standards that her father would play on steel drums. She absorbed a unique sense of tonal mix and improvisation by sitting under, leaning into, and singing along with her dad’s drums. Pauline's voice has been compared to the likes of Grace Slick, Bjork and Sinead O’Connor. With influences ranging from Bach to Radiohead, her music reveals a matured personal style that sings to the melody of the soul.

An accomplished violinist, singer-songwriter, and poet, Pauline has collaborated with many artists throughout her career and has toured across Canada. She has released one studio album (There Comes A Time, 2009), three music videos Pampas Grass (2009) Wild Bend (2012), and World Spins (2021) and a collection of self-published poetry books.

THE HONEST FRAUDS
The Honest Frauds are vocalist Morgan Greer and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Cal Webb, who met and started playing music together in the summer of 2022. A mix of rock, folk and blues influences, they are currently recording their debut EP for release in the Spring of 2023.
