Join us from Jan. 26, 2024, to experience a variety of curriculum-based school programs that allow children to explore history as close to first hand as possible! Using a variety of activities, our interpreters will lead children through a thoughtful, fun and exciting day they won’t soon forget! Important Additional Information

  • Registrations are for full day only.
  • No younger siblings are allowed to attend with the registered student. 
  • All programs run for the same amount of time and have the same price.
  • Each program is limited to 15 participants with a guardian/teacher.
  • Please register early to ensure your spot.
  • On the morning of the field trip, check-in will be in Burn’s Barn.

Grade 1 Program

Morning Program: Winter Wonders

Embrace the magic of winter with an adventure filled with fun activities! Come and explore the many wonders of winter. Discover how animals prepare for winter and observe the signs of the season through a nature walk and scavenger hunt. Learn how First Nations people and the Settlers planned for the cold weather and survived a prairie winter. Have some fun playing indoor curling, making maple sugar candy in the snow and creating winter themed crafts. Winter has never been so much fun!

Afternoon Program: Patchwork of the Past

Travel back in time to meet the Prince and Thorpe families – the real people who lived in two of our unique historic homes. Through exploration and comparison of cultural traditions, home life, family roles and responsibilities, students will gain an understanding of how families and communities have changed over time and how they have stayed the same.

Price: $56 per student, GST exempt. Each student is allowed one complimentary guardian.

Winter Wonders Duration: 9:30 am – 11 am

Patchwork of the Past Duration: 12 – 2 pm

Grade 2-3 Program

Arctic Adventure

This program covers life in the Arctic among Canada’s Inuit communities. An understanding and appreciation of how geography and resources can shape a community is achieved through discussion, activities and artifact examination. Some activities take place outside as students observe snow and ice and try their hand at a few Inuit games.

Price: $56 per student, GST exempt. Each student is allowed one complimentary guardian.

Artic Adventure Duration: 9:30 am – 2 pm

Grade 4-6 Program

Winter Expedition

Put on your explorers’ hat, dress warm, and head off on a learning expedition! Your journey begins by travelling back in time to the days that First Nations, trappers and traders lived in the west. How did these people travel through the frozen terrain? Learn the survival techniques that were developed by First Nations people and taught to the Europeans who came to supply the fur trade. This is a full day of learning through activities, games and crafts.

Price: $56 per student, GST exempt. Each student is allowed one complimentary guardian.
