Grade 1-2 Program

Arctic Adventure (9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.)

The beauty of the Arctic and the fascinating lives of the Inuit come alive in Arctic Adventure. Through discussion, activities and artifact examination students will learn how the Inuit survived and thrived in this harsh climate. Students will depart with an understanding and appreciation how geography and resources can shape a community. Some activities take place outside including trying out the snow goggles they made and trying their hand at Inuit games.

Grade 3-4 Program

First Encounters (9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.)

Put on your explorers’ hat, dress warm, and head off on a learning expedition! Your journey begins by travelling back in time to the days that First Nations, trappers and traders lived in the west. How did these people travel through the frozen terrain? Learn the survival techniques that were developed by First Nations people and taught to the Europeans who came to supply the fur trade. This is a full day of learning through activities, games and crafts.

Grade 5-6-7 Program

Ways of Life (9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.)

This program will teach the ways of life among the Blackfoot confederacy, the voyageurs, and the Métis of Western Canada. Covering the lifestyles of these diverse groups, we discuss what the population of Alberta once looked like, how it changed, and what prompted those changes. The students will also learn about the relationship each of these groups had with the land.  This will be done through a combination of stories, artifact demonstrations, and activities.
